While other kids wanted to be superheroes, astronauts or doctors when they grew up, LiAnne Yu wanted to be Margaret Mead. She’s still working on that. By day she works as a consumer insights strategist, using her anthropology background to help companies better understand the cultural meanings that people desire in the products they use. At all other hours she moonlights as a narrative journalist and travel documentarian, asking herself WWMMD to tell the extraordinary, real-life stories of ordinary people.
She splits her time between San Francisco, the city that raised her, the Big Island of Hawaii, where talk story is an endurance sport, and Frankfurt, where she still hasn’t found anybody to go with her on the Ebbelwoi Express.
